The Lab’s research aims to improve neonatal outcomes through integrated clinical and translational studies. The main research areas include:

Neonatal infections, with a focus on prevention, early diagnosis, and optimized treatment strategies;

Antimicrobial stewardship programs, with a coordinating role in multicenter studies;

Neonatal neurology, investigating brain injury, neurological disorders, mechanisms of vulnerability of the developing brain, and neurodevelopmental outcomes;

Neurodevelopmental care, aimed at promoting optimal long-term cognitive, motor, and behavioral outcomes in preterm and critically ill infants;

Neonatal pain, exploring pain assessment, underlying mechanisms, and both non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions to reduce pain and stress in newborns;

Rare diseases, focusing on early identification, clinical characterization, and personalized care approaches during the neonatal period.
